Does Lake City have a curfew ordinance?  

Yes. Minors aged 15 and under may not be out in public between 10:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Minors aged 16 &17 may not be out in public between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

Does my dog need a license if I live in the City limits?

Yes. Your dog does need a city dog license annually as soon as he or she reaches 6 months old. You can apply for one at the Lake City Public Safety Building located on North 10th Street, during business hours. The license helps an officer identify your dog if he or she gets loose and get him back to you sooner. What about my cat?  Lake City has no cat ordinance.

How loud can I be for how long?

Lake City’s ordinance says no noise between 10:00p.m. and 7:00 a.m.  This includes, but is not limited to, loud music, vehicles, construction, yelling and boisterous conduct.

Does the City have a winter parking schedule?

Yes. It is unlawful for any motor vehicle, snowmobile or trailer to be parked upon the public street when a depth of four (4) inches or more of snow, ice or similar precipitation is present. Both side of the street must be plowed before ANY parking is allowed back onto the public street. A ticket awaits any violator.

Can I obtain a Permit to Purchase from the Lake City Police Department if I have a Lake City Address but live outside City limits?

No.  A Permit to Purchase must go through the Wabasha or Goodhue County Sheriff’s Offices.   The Police Department can only issue a Permit to Purchase to residence that live within city limits.

Can I request a Police Report on another individual?

Yes and No.  Please call during office hours and confirm if the report is releasable or not. If you find out you can request a report there is a form called the Data Release – Members of Public Form that needs to be filled out and e-mailed to the general e-mail or brought in person to the Police Department.  There is a fee involved with this request if it ends up being labor intensive or over 100 pages.    

Can I request a Police Report on myself?

Yes and No. Please call during office hours and confirm if the report is releasable or not. If you find out you can request a report there is a form called the Data Release – Data Subject Form that needs to be filled out and e-mailed to the general e-mail or brought in person to the Police Department.   No Fee for this service.

Can I drive my ATV on City streets?
Yes, on certain streets.  See city ordinance 74.01 thru 74.11 

Can I drive my Golf Cart in City limits?
Yes, See city ordinance 77.07 thru 77.09

What laws govern motorized foot scooters?
A new law passed in the 2005 legislative session (Laws 2005, chapter 135) generally gives to motorized foot scooters the same rights and responsibilities as bicycles on streets and highways.
