Residential Security Checks
If you are leaving town for a period of time and would like periodic security checks at your home, the police department has a Residential Security Request form you can fill out and we will make periodic checks. Stop by the police department and fill one out.
Business Keyholder Contact listing
The police department maintains a Business Directory of contact names for security issues that are detected in businesses after hours. Please feel free to stop by and fill out the Business Security Listing form. This information will then be available to us in the event we need to contact someone in regards to a security issue or other need for a contact person after your business hours.
Copies of reports or other data
Available by contacting our Administrative Assistants at 651-345-3344 during regular business hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, except legal holidays. You may also use e-mail or Postal Mail to make your requests. Information is released per The Minnesota Data Practices Act and a fee may be charged.
Gun Permits
Applications for Permits to Purchase handguns and assault rifles are available at the Lake City Police Department and will be processed for residents of Lake City only. Please allow 7 days to process. There is no fee to process applications for Permits to Purchase.
Applications for Permits to Carry must be processed at the county sheriff’s office of your residence regardless of where your residence is. (In Lake City it will be either Wabasha County or Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office)
Police Reserves
The Lake City Police Department utilizes Police Reserves. They are not licensed nor do they have powers of arrest or carry a firearm. They are used primarily for non-enforcement duties such as traffic and crowd control at special events, crime scene security, standby at sporting events and numerous other activities, including monthly ride along with sworn officers. Anyone interested in becoming a Police Reserve Officer, contact Captain Anthony Cox.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and be a high school graduate or the equivalent.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license;
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Must successfully complete police background check and pre-employment physical.
- Must live within a 60 minute driving radius of the Lake City Police Department
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Education, training or experience in the field of law enforcement.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR
Fees
Record retrieval is $18/per hour, minimum ½ hour. A deposit may be required.
Electronic transmittal of date: actual time for retrieval and transmission at $16/hour

Civil Paper Service $90.00
Impounded Dogs $20.00/per day
Dangerous Dog Registration $125.00 (per dog)
