Yard compost & brush chipping site

The Yard Compost & Brush Chipping Site will open for the 2025 season on Friday, March 28th, 2025 weather permitting.

The City of Lake City yard compost and brush chipping site is located at 33688 Territorial Road (located at Goodhue County Road #5 adjacent to the old Territorial Road).

 

Seasonal Hours of operation are as follows:

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturdays - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please note the site will be closed on Memorial Day (May 29th), Independence Day (July 4th) and Labor Day (September 4th) 

 

Items accepted at compost site:

  • Grass clippings, garden debris and leaves will be accepted at the yard compost area. Reminder: Do not rake these items into the City Streets as City crews will not pick them up in the spring.
  • Brush, shrubs and trees will be accepted at the brush chipping area. Reminder: all roots must be clean with no dirt material

 

Items not accepted:

  • plastics, glass, lumber, metal, tires, or cement

 

Holiday Closures:

The yard compost/brush chipping site will be closed on holidays.  

 

Compost Site Entrance Stickers Required 

Commercial and Tree Service are required to have a sticker.  Questions?  Call 651-345-6850.

Commercial entities and tree services must purchase a new sticker each year at City Hall.  

  • Commercial (lawn care, golf course, medical, etc.) - $400
  • Tree service providers - $800

Payments can be made by cash, check or credit/debit card.

 

Notice Regarding 2025 Compost Site Use

Effective for the 2025 season, the Lake City Compost Site will be open to City of Lake City residents only. Individuals residing outside of city limits will no longer be permitted to use the facility.

This decision was made following careful consideration of city policy and a variety of operational concerns. We understand this may impact some users, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure responsible and sustainable use of the site.

The City will continue to review this policy and will provide updates as needed for future seasons.
