Community Garden

2026 Community Garden Season

Registration Information

Registration for the 2026 garden season at the Community Garden is underway. Registration will close April 1st, however, registrations will continue to be accepted until all the plots are filled.

Registration materials are posted on the City of Lake City website. Additionally, printed copies may be obtained at the office of City Planning and Community Development in City Hall.

Once the registration period closes, plot assignments will be made as soon as possible. Notification of plot assignment will be made by email. If more applications are received than there are plots available, a waiting list, based on a first come-first served basis, will be kept following assignments should plots become available. For returning gardeners, the default position is to reassign the plot held last season.

About the Gardens

The Community Garden is located at near 10th Street and Jewell Avenue between the well house and the ice skating rink. There are 37 plots marked and staked. The bulk of the plots measure 25 X 25 feet and individuals can choose a whole or half plot. There are four smaller plots about 13 X 25 feet (about the same size as a half plot). Interested gardeners must be residents of Lake City or employees of a business located within the city limits. New gardeners must submit a deposit with their application and waiver. The half plot deposit is $25, and the whole plot deposit is $50. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the year if plots are cleaned and maintained according to simple garden guidelines.

The Community Garden project began in 2009 and was augmented with a grant from Horizon Milling and Cargill Corporation to help feed the community in difficult times. The land is owned by the City and water is provided on site and donated by the City. Hoses, a limited selection of tools, and a lockable storage shed were acquired using grant money and donations by gardeners and are available use by the gardeners.
